Vietnamese and Lao gangsta rap – hip hop video battle
Following are two worthy North American based, Southeast Asian ethnic artists’ indy music videos for sharing and comparing purposes. Have a look and listen, then leave your comments and opinions in the form below.
Straight off the streets of Jane & Finch, a minority majority neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario Canada, Chuckie Akenz, backed by his crew, ‘the V-Unit’ exclaim their Vietnamese pride, proclaiming the number one rule: “Don’t Fuck With the Gooks!” if you are down with the Viet, “You got beef’ ought to get your pride pumpin.
The Lao Crimino Boyz, thuggin it in the blocks of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, flaunt one of the top glories sought by emcees—that is to pump a dope beat backed with swift lyrical twistin rhymes that get all the fly honies dropin dat ass on the flo. Confused? Check out their Video “Move Som”
Personally, the Siamerican gives props and criticisms to both. While dominated with N. American slang, some Viet and Lao lyrics, respectively, were thrown in, clearly differentiating the styles and feel from other Gangsta rap tracks. Though nothing important is really being said in either, the video production in both is smooth, while the grooves are catchy enough to hook you in. The Siamerican found more appeal in the Lao Crimino song, as love wins out over violence any day—besides the beat being more authentic with some Lao style melody pushing the groove through.
So, which one did you like/ dislike more? Why?

for me i prefer VN to Lao, i like the melody
Regarding the Move Somm video, lots tend to compliment the girl in pink, but clearly, the Asian girl in black top who first appears @ the fifteenth second is the best!
