Statistics for Social Sciences: Bangkok University International College student travel attitude survey research

February 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

So anyway, the research survey was done to identify tendencies and preferences in regards to travel destinations, activity, and finally, the four regions of Thailand. The Sample group was small–31 individuals, all Bangkok University Students from 10 countries, mosly Asian and 60% or so females, from 19 to 27, with a mean age of 21.6– which were asked to rank destination categories, activities, and regions from most preferred to least preferred.

Had to use SPSS Statistics program to calculate frequencies as is class requirement. As the first project is simply descriptive descripitives, conducting a report with conclusion wasn’t too difficult, as wasn’t necessary to use comparative and inferential statistics. That will be after mid term exams.

It was no surprise that Coastal Nature (i.e. beaches, islands, sea-view) was most popular, followed by inland, urban, and cultural. As far as activties, it was pretty balanced, with Active-Excercise activities holding little more weight against, relation, social, and educational type activities.

North seemed to be the most popular region, followed by central, south, and Isarn as the least preferred region of travel.

As stated in the right up, the research is insufficient to draw any solid conclusions, and is incomplete of larger populations, but it was fun, yet the most active activity of this term yet.

A big part of this Friday was spent writing, and conducting the report for Social Stats class, which a presentation along with the report is due Saturday morning. Well, it’s now almost midnight, and the Siamerican has completed everything. The report itself turned out to be 20 pages, which was mostly bar graphs and table charts. And of course, the presentation will be led by powerpoint, which is what occupied this evening–gathering graphic clips and all.

Now uploaded onto the web server, the powerpoint and files should all be around here somewhere:
