One of the most common night dreams for humans is either falling or flying. For many, the night hours’ subconscious mind plays out a vague yet thrilling sketch with a combination of both adrenaline pumping actions, leaving an impression almost always remembered in the waking moments.
Last night, the Siamerican defied gravity yet again. In past dreams, the phenomena usually involved jumping to slam dunk a basketball, and just when gravity was supposed to bring him back down to earth, he was able to delay the laws of physics to boost an even higher than normal vertical and float his way up, to and down to dunk the ball away like an Air Jordan of the late 80s.
Last night’s jumps didn’t involve sport, balls, or steel rims, but rather much more interesting, cities, buildings and skyscrapers. In last night’s episode, the Siamerican found himself soaring around an unnamed city, landing and launching from the roofs of large buildings. Yet even in the dream, it was only half real. Google Earth was vaguely at work, yet it was beyond an LCD screen–real time and real speed, so it seemed.
Quite peculiar about last night’s dreams was not so much the flying itself, but the observation within the dream that when he took a second to realize that he was actually able to soar and fly at speeds and heights high enough to surge adrenaline to the heart like a 10 year old on the roller coaster for the first time, his flying powers suddenly began to decline, and he would have to descend almost just short of his target, just barely making it to the roof of the next building.
In contrast to reality, the Siamerican has been spending much hours the past few months on Google Earth map surveying commercial and industrial zones and buildings for a demanding database project. While excelling to the best of his current capability and capacity, there is inner concern about delivering promptly and perfectly.
After reading this take on flying dreams, all the pieces to day and night reality do seem to be more than coincidence, though. Ah, who wouldn’t love to really fly like Superman. Surely it’s possible?
