Renewing Thai Identity Card at provincial district office

A guy’s wallet may be good for temporarily holding cash, but we can’t always rely on them for keeping other vital items in vintage condition. Whether business and bank cards, photos, identification cards, or even condoms, it is not a good idea to rely on these standard leather wallets as stand-alone protection against the wear and tear of the typical mobile males’ life style, prone to daily swift crunch, crash, wet and sweat.

And so has it, after two years, the picture on SW’s Thai identity card had faded so far, it was utterly unidentifiable and unrecognizable. Anticipating possible problems to prepare and prevent, it was time to renew. Informally informed that renewals can be reissued nationwide, no matter where one’s house registration resided, the convenience of digitalized E-gov system brought SW to the Phuket provincial district office downtown, Phuket town, proving to waist little time. In the old days, he would have only been allowed to do it at the district office with jurisdiction of his house registration. Thankful for technology.

15 minutes, in and out. Got an electronic queue ticket, issued my old ID along with a Xeroxed copy of my house registration. Not sure if was absolutely necessary, but volunteered my drivers’ license for further verification, which they accepted. Few moments later, called me to take a new picture and scan both my hand’s thumb and index finger and I was on my way with a new smart-card (digital chip implanted for scanning purposes) Identity card.

  1. The magnetic strip on the Universal Envoy’s bank card is worn and needs to be replaced along with his wallet.
