Bangkok University Locker Room Padlock Injustice
After class, the Siamerican went to the Bangkok University city campus gym with plans to shoot around the basketball. Upon entering the locker room, he noticed a white note on his locker, as well as a dozen others which had locks. The note was all in Thai and read:
นักศึกษาท่านใดนำกุญแจมาล็อคตู้ล็อคเกอร์
กรุณานำของออกจากตู้ล็อคเกอร์ด้วย
ถ้าท่านใดไม่ปฏิบัติตาม
แผนกกีฬาจะทำการงัดตู้ล็อคเกอร์
แล้วให้นักศึกษาติดต่ออาจารย์แผนกกีฬา
…which is a warning note from the Sports & Activity department of the univesity telling the person who locked their things inside the locker with a padlock to remove the padlock and take their things out, or else the department was going to remove it themselves…
After playing basketball–first shooting around and then joined a few games of 2 on 2 with some Thai guys there–for about 45 minutes, dripping sweat, the Siamerican was ready for a shower and to head home.
After showering and getting dressed, the Siamerican took the warning note to one of the gym attendants, who turned out to be the head of the gym. He wasn’t as calm as could be in complaining about the injustice of not being allowed to lock things in the locker overnight–for after all, all students are required to pay sports and facilities fees every year.
A small argument ensued and eventually it was made clear that no students are allowed to leave things in locker overnight, and are only allowed to use the locker if they are within close proximity to the gym!
The reasoning is that there are too many students and that no one should get special treatment, because if some students were allowed to have a regular locker, than everyone would want one (though that is far from reality that every student would want their own locker as few people even use the gym and fitness center, let alone know about it) and there isn’t enough lockers for everyone.
Well, so much for leaving work out clothes, towel, soap, and shoes at the locker room, looks like the Siamerican will be forced to pack such essentials every time….bummmer …EXTREME DISSATISFACTION expressed with the Bangkok University Sports & Activity department’s rules and reasoning on this issue!!!
