Readers and followers of this Thai American blog, please forgive the delayed updates here from the Thai capital, as the Siamerican Wanderer has been swamped with work and academics.
There were three major projects/presentations this week that had demanded much energy, focus and commitment. On Thursday, the Siamercan had a major group business presentation for Marketing Communications class.
His group had to introduce a product for the Thai market, creating a marketing message, slogan, and imaginary plan to implement. The group chose the compressed air car, which is a real car that runs off of presurized air, soon to be launched in real markets later this year.
For the slogan, the group decided on ‘a fresh breath of air’. Last Sunday, the Siamerican spent most of the day on Photoshop maniuplating still images for a small advert that the group used in their presentation. You can see that advert here.
The presentation was straightforward, with a clear message, so the group should have faired okay with the score, though can’t be sure until later on, whenver such scores are released.
On Friday, the Siamerican also had his final group presentation for Modern Presentation Techniques class, which was a Pursuasion presentation. The international group (the Siamerican, a Thai Italian, Andrea, a Burmese, Zao Pan, a Bhutanese, Zinga, and a Filipina, Zarina) objective was to pursuade the class to consider joining the Bangkok University International Exchange program, reasoning that it would help them expand their horizons, cultural and life experience, and also that it was feasible and affordable in that no matter what country you chose (i.e. Japan, USA, Australia, England, etc.), you would only have to pay Bangkok University tuition fees instead of the more expensive international tuition fees of some the countries.
Today, Saturday was the last major project/presentation/report for Statistics for Social Sciences course. The Siamerican was partnered with his American friend, Jesse in their inferative statistics project analysing University student demographics (i.e. Age, year of study, relationship, work, and accommodation status) and their corelation with telecommunication usage (i.e. telephone and internet).
The Siamerican and Jesse worked diligently yet sparingly over the last week, finalizing the report and powerpoint this morning. Though showing up to class a little late and delivering it promptly after arrival, the two were satisfied with their performance and happy to have the burden worth 10 percent of the overall class grade finally clear. The class calls for one more major quiz next Saturday which should echo that of the actual final exam in a few weeks time.
Now the only remaining major academic obligations this term include study cramming, a 500 word essay for College Writing course, and exam preparation for his six subjects, of which the finals will commence mid month. Once the exams are completed, the Siamerican plans to take another motorbike road trip to Phuket, but only once he has cleared his professional obligations in Bangkok regarding Database collection coordination.
In between academics and work, the Siamerican has also been hitting the gym a few times with some Thai and international class mates from his Modern Presentation class. Namely, two exchange students, Edgar and Runi from Norway have joined the Siamerican and Thai friends, Grit, Noo, Da, Van, Ashton, and Pair to play Badminton at the city campus gym. The idea is not only to make healthy friendships, but also healthy bodies and thus healthy minds as exam period approaches.
For the summer period of two and half months, the Siamerican needs to devote most of his energy to the database project spending time in both Bangkok and Phuket with family, thus securing his future, and ultimately his career and prosperity.
…stay tuned
