Bangkok Blues: Summer Break Work Overload and 90’s Nostalgia

May 28th, 2008 · No Comments

For most students, the finishing of exams signaled a transition into a rest, relax, and recovery mode. For the Siamerican, it meant it was time to allocate and focus all his time and energy on the real world of work, management, databases, zones, buildings, teams, wages, and money…

In between coordinating and managing his California industry-commercial address database building team remotely here in Bangkok, the Siamerican did end up making an appearance at a poolside, BUIC and friends semester break kickoff-summer party labeled ‘the High Voltage party’ last Saturday. Faces from all corners of the globe joined at Empire House condo on Ekamai soi 12 at the 7th floor rooftop pool for drinks, music, mingling, smoke, and even swimming for those who weren’t worrying about their surface image too much. The Siamerican was one of the few who went for a swim, and boy was it refreshing.

After such a brief breather, Sunday was no time for rest. It was only time to get a move on the database project, in hopes of finishing at least Southern California by next weekend, with only parts of LA left for his team. Once Southern California has officially been completed, a short break will entail before assigning his team on Northern California, whence it would be feasible to take the long journey down to Phuket and visit his son in addition to recruiting potential data collector(s).

Last night was up until 3 am, double checking and editing the San Diego and Orange County databases, and today, the Siamerican was without much energy to do much more as a small ‘weakness’ has begot him.

Thus, today was a slow and nostalgic day. The highlight was streaming and listening to songs that brought him back a decade. We all might recall our parents, relatives, and older siblings boasting about the 60’s 70’s and even 80’s, but truly the 90’s was an incomparable decade and era in its own right.

The great thing about the IT age is the accessibility of media across physical and conceptual boundaries. With no intents to endorse illegal pirating of intellectual property right infringement or whatever you want to call it, the trouble one has to go through just to listen to a song a few times can be quite a headache–frustrating and ever unnecessary. Music is supposed to be art and inspiration, not court orders and judicial codes and lawsuits, lets not forget. Luckily there’s great resources like Youtube, where many classic song’s videos/songs are available for free streaming.

Well, initially, it was tried embedding all three videos on this blog post, but the coding for multiple videos streams seems to clash and mix up throwing the page format all off and not even able to show any of the videos correctly,  so the Siamerican has decided to make separate posts for each video as to still be able to share the generation time trip… Either scroll ahead some 3 or 4 blog posts or do a simple search.

…stay tuned.
